I was a big fan of the original dungeon defenders, but the free to play aspect of the second game took the shine away and brought too much of a grind to the series, Dungeon Defenders Awakened returns to its roots and we’ve got a full review in the works, our review will be live in the next few days when we’ve had a chance to check out its online performance, but until then here’s the official press release covering today’s launch.
Dungeon Defenders: Awakened Now Available for Xbox Platforms
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – March 17, 2021 –Dungeon Defenders: Awakened, the epic return of Chromatic Games’ multimillion-selling co-op tower defense action RPG series, makes its console debut on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Gear up and travel to Etheria to defend the Eternia Crystals using five heroes with unique playstyles. Fight across breathtaking renditions of fan-favorite battlefields from previous Dungeon Defenders entries and new awe-inspiring locales that usher in the next generation of the series’ acclaimed gameplay.
March through the Campaign Mode to experience a time-traveling adventure with far-reaching consequences spread across multiple acts and punctuated by massive boss battles. Prepare to face the forces of darkness by building defensive blockades, spell-slinging towers, and devious traps to push back against waves of foes. Then leap into the action, cutting through enemies with a variety of powerful attacks, abilities, and supers to turn the tides of battle and earn piles of legendary loot and equipment.
Experience all of Etheria’s trials alone or with up to four players in online co-op. Progress through the Campaign, or test your abilities in various alternative modes, like the building-only Pure Strategy or the punishing Massacre Mode that introduces dangerously tough enemy variants. The Xbox platform launch of Dungeon Defenders: Awakened also brings the Rifted Maps into the mix. Accessible during Campaign and Survival Modes, Rifted Maps lower the amount of enemies Defenders face, instead offering ultra-tough foes that drop all-new specialized equipment as rewards.
With the launch of Dungeon Defenders on the Xbox family of consoles, players will have access to all of the content currently available in the game’s PC version, including the acclaimed Transmog system. Perfect for creating stylish Defenders, the Transmog system lets you fully customize your heroes, allowing you to show off your own style as you adventure through Etheria in an outfit all of their own.
“We are extremely proud to bring Dungeon Defenders: Awakened to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S today,” said Augi Lye, CEO, Chromatic Games. “With Dungeon Defender: Awakened’s console launch, we hope to invite Defenders old and new to return to Etheria today!”
Dungeon Defenders: Awakened is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for $29.99.
The Xbox release features all of the Steam version content, with additional updates containing other quality of life improvements following launch. Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions of Dungeon Defenders: Awakened will be available later in 2021.
